Source: https://dev-docs.nebula-graph.io/v5.3.2/database-gql-reference/overview/ Documentation version: v5.3.2 # What is GQL Graph Query Language (GQL) is a declarative language for property graphs. Use it to define graph structures, write data, and query relationships between nodes and edges. NebulaGraph Database Developer Edition implements a language based on the [GQL standard](https://www.iso.org/standard/76120.html), with product-specific extensions. In these docs, “GQL” means this product's implementation; use this reference for its supported syntax. If you are new to GQL, read these topics in order: 1. Follow [Connect and run your first query](https://dev-docs.nebula-graph.io/v5.3.2/get-started/first-query/) to connect and learn how to use the clients. 2. Work through [Get started with GQL: Create a graph and run CRUD operations](https://dev-docs.nebula-graph.io/v5.3.2/database-gql-reference/overview/first-steps/) to create a graph, insert nodes and edges, then query, update, and delete data. 3. Learn [patterns](https://dev-docs.nebula-graph.io/v5.3.2/database-gql-reference/patterns/) and practice more complex queries with the [movie example dataset](https://dev-docs.nebula-graph.io/v5.3.2/database-gql-reference/overview/example-dataset/). To look up a statement, use the [GQL cheat sheet](https://dev-docs.nebula-graph.io/v5.3.2/database-gql-reference/overview/cheat-sheet/) or open its reference topic from the left navigation. For questions about graphs and temporary graphs, cross-graph queries, variables, or procedures, see the [NebulaGraph Database Developer Edition GQL FAQ](https://dev-docs.nebula-graph.io/v5.3.2/database-gql-reference/overview/faq/).
